NARNIA...My new favorite place
CAUTION: Major love affair with the movie going on in this post. If you would rather not have any opinion going into the movie, please don't read this til after you have seen it. i don't want to be responsible for raising someone's hopes only to have them not like it near as much as i did. BUT, if you want my biased opinion based on my first viewing of the movie (there will be other viewings i assure you) please proceed.
I don't know how many of you were planning on seeing The Chronicles of Narnia:The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe in theaters, but i have to say it is a very worthwhile endeavor. I had never been to a midnight movie before and i was afraid i wouldn't be able to stay awake. I assure you it was not a problem. I was spellbound.
I read every last one of the books in the last few months in preparation for this movie and i was so glad i had. So much of it looked just as my imagination had pictured it when i was reading.
I was reading an article this morning about how Disney kind of laid low on linking Aslan to Jesus. I have to say i agree with that assessment if i was seeing it from a non-Christian perspective. For me, however, it was such a beautiful picture of what our Lord and Savior endured so that we might live. There is no way to bypass the Gospel because it is spread through every pore of the books. And i felt it so keenly in several scenes in the movie.
Ok i will stop gushing so that i don't ruin the movie for all of you who haven't seen it yet (which should be most everybody because it came out today.
if you want my advice here it is: See it as soon as possible!!!
I left the movie excited because i get to see it again on Sunday and i can't wait to catch the things i might have missed the first time around.

Yay for Narnia! I could not believe how good of an actress that little girl who played Lucy was. I was also surprised how faithful they stayed to the story - it fit most of my mental pictures too!
Lucy was The best! I loved her so much! I saw the BBC version a couple weeks ago...Lucy = blech. Naturally, I was looking forward to seeing the new Luc, and she was amazing! You couldn't Not love her!
As for the white witch...Worst. Costumes. Ever. The giant blond and orange dreadlocks? The freakish "dresses"? Icicles coming out of her hair? WHAT in the world? When I think "evil queen," I'm more on the side of someone who is very prim and proper, prideful of her appearance. Someone you can respect and despise.
If I was under the rule of an evil queen and couldn't even respect her because of how ridiculous she looked? How ever would I be fearful of her? Yeah, I wouldn't.
Stupid lady...
Oh! But the soundtrack was Marvelous! I plan on getting it as soon as I can, if I can find it at a decent price.
PS- Hi Erin! I hope I can see you again some time this lifetime. That would be nice :).
OK. i concede a little on the White Witch, but if she is supposed to represent a character that is slightly like the devil then they did a pretty good job with her. I wouldn't want to be caught in a dark alley with the woman. Plus she was a little puppet like in her movements. oh, well. I saw the movie a second time yesterday. Still just as good, possibly even more powerful.
HRN-- i absolutely love Lucy too. She did an amazing job. THe second time i saw it she started to remind me of Lyd!
thanks for your opinions.
P.S. Bruce i hope to see you again soon. (if you give me a good reason for a road trip we might have to come out and see ya).
And I was hoping the 5 of us would see it for the firs time as a family.........oh, well, guess you will be the only "repeater"! But from teh sounds of it, it won't be a problem for you!
Love ya! MOM
okay! Now I have seen it, TWICE and I loved it! It is great!
Sorry, "Bruce" but I thought the personna of the evil witch was perfect.....and her portrayal of selfish, prideful wickedness was exactly the way I imagined it. I liked the costuming and the coldness with which she was portrayed! It gave a us a sense of the raw, brutal, truth of evil.
